Characteristics of Various Types of Paint Used in Wooden Display Stand Production

Beyond the stylistic design of wooden display stands, the finish also plays a crucial role in determining their quality. With the wide variety of paints available on the market today, how should customers select the coating for their wooden display stands?

NC open-grain lacquer and nitrocellulose lacquer offer relatively low costs and straightforward application. Once cured, they provide an excellent tactile finish. However, their adhesion, hardness, and durability are subpar, with particularly poor water resistance. Consequently, many wooden display stand manufacturers now favour PU (polyurethane) lacquers.

Standard PU lacquers: Polyester lacquers carry higher costs and present greater application challenges. Once cured, they exhibit superior technical properties including hardness, adhesion, and durability. Their relatively high solids content means that 2-3 spray coats may seal the wood grain pores, rendering them unsuitable for open-grain finishes.

PU Open-Grain Speciality Paint: Advantages include: excellent tactile feel, high hardness, water resistance, good abrasion resistance, and favourable application properties. Normal spraying does not seal the wood grain pores, allowing for an open-wood-grain effect with no thickening of the wood vessels. It offers high clarity, and substandard products can be reworked.
