Causes of Cracks in Acrylic Screen Printing and How to Maintain Acrylic

Acrylic display stands may develop cracks during screen printing for various reasons. One cause could be the screen printing ink itself, while another might stem from material defects. Should cracks arise due to substandard sheet quality, one may test this by selecting a previously screen-printed piece of scrap material that remains intact without cracks. and screen print it using the same ink. If no cracks appear, the sheet material is substandard, possibly due to excessive moisture or impurities. Try baking the acrylic sheet at 60°C for 30 minutes before screen printing; this may resolve the issue.

Care Instructions:

1. Avoid High Temperatures

Acrylic deforms at approximately 70°C and softens above 100°C. Therefore, avoid exposure to temperatures exceeding 100°C.

2. Minimise Scratches For minor scratches on polished acrylic, gently rub with a tissue or cloth dampened with a small amount of toothpaste. For deeper scratches, sanding with fine-grade sandpaper is recommended. Note: Sanding will render the product unusable as it will cause extensive surface damage.

III. Avoid Chemical Cleaners

Clean acrylic with soft cloths only. Never use abrasive cleaners containing grit particles or chemical bath agents.

IV. Prevent Cracking

Acrylic is prone to cracking. Handle with care to protect surfaces during placement and removal. Should acrylic items become damaged, repair using IPS adhesive/bonding agents, dichloromethane-based adhesives, or quick-drying agents.
