The Difference Between Acrylic Sheets and PS Sheets

Acrylic sheets and PS sheets differ in glossiness, especially domestically produced PS sheets. For instance, when comparing transparent sheets, acrylic sheets exhibit superior gloss and light transmission compared to PS sheets, with finished products displaying more vibrant colors. PS sheets, however, have average transparency and may show speckles when viewed under reflection. They are also relatively brittle and prone to breakage.

Second, touch. Acrylic sheets, especially cast sheets, feature smoother, more even surfaces with a more comfortable feel. Additionally, cast sheets are generally thicker, whereas PS sheets, mostly produced via extrusion, tend to be thinner than acrylic sheets.

Third, burn test: Both cast and extruded acrylic sheets produce no black smoke when burned. Extruded sheets exhibit a clear flame, no smoke, bubbles, and form long threads when the flame is extinguished. Cast sheets produce no smoke, bubbles, and a sizzling sound when burned, with no threads upon flame removal. PS sheets, however, produce copious amounts of thick black smoke when burned.

Four: Sound Test

Tap the corner of the sheet against the ground. A dull sound indicates acrylic, while a crisp sound indicates PS.
